I don’t know that I ever thought about the “idea” of liberation as being just that, but what struck me was …”all we ever know is this moment, not some imaginary future time in which one is free from all pain”…..”such a state may be as imaginary”…… that kind of jolted me out of my daydream. I am stunned by those words because they loosened something. It was the same kind of loosening I had a few weeks ago when I was watching an old movie “The Man with the Golden Arm”. Kim Novak is trying to help Frank Sinatra, who is addicted to heroin. He just wants one more shot to get rid of the shakes. At some point she says to him “Why should you suffer like everyone else”? Very sarcastically. Like why would he think he wasn’t going to have to hurt like everyone else. A lot of these rides we choose to go on are the same thing. Why should we have to experience life like the rest of the slobs out there? We are on a PATH. We MEDITATE. We are so smug. Thanks Robert. Sorry for the long comment. As you can see, I am really seeing something, about myself. Like I never thought my stuff could be just as imaginary as I think THEIR stuff is or that I would still suffer like the rest of the world. I don’t know who I think I am.
